I really enjoyed my first ever night race last year. Everything about it was familiar to me, the running venue, the time, even some of the fellow runners along the way. <see review here> I was looking forward to its supposed sequel this year. I wanted to finally get the revenge I was looking for in the exact same route that introduced me to running hills. I was disappointed when I heard that it was not going to be a tradition, and was cancelled. Read the rest of this entry »

Overcoming Pinatubo
10 10 2010October 9th, 2010… my first ever trail run… and what’s the best way to do your first? Well by doing an ultra of course! The 1st Mt Pinatubo 50K Trail Challenge organized by BaldRunner was the best way for me to test whether trail running is for me or not.
Virginal
This race was going to be a race of many firsts for me. It was my first time to ever go to Mt. Pinatubo. It was going to be my first ultra run without the usual support of my wife. Not only would I not have the usual attention I got from her, but I was going to miss the moral support she gave whenever the going got tough. It was my first trail run ever.
They did say to avoid “firsts” on race day, but I had no choice, there were going to be a lot of firsts for me in this race. Read the rest of this entry »

Rock and Rain
26 06 2010The first of its kind Rock and Run event was held last Saturday, June 19th. After doing some research, it’s similar to the Rock and Roll Marathon Series in the US . So the concept was to enjoy several rock concerts along the route. There would be stages set up along the route where runners would be able to enjoy running to their favorite rock tunes while running at the same time! A great concept, and definitely beats having earphones and toggle your music library while running. Read the rest of this entry »

1st Philippine Association of Ultrarunners 50k (Tanay, Rizal)
18 05 2010Contrast and family
A day before the elections which would decide the winner of the race for the seemingly coveted seats in power in the dawn of a new age arena of automated polls, a race director conducted a race that would put a lot of runner’s to the test and push them beyond their limits. This event was in stark contrast of the elections to happen the day after with its archaic logistics and set up. Despite the lack of sophistication in today’s commercial running events, the race was for purist runners who ran only against themselves pushing themselves beyond their previous achievements.
Coincidently, it was mother’s day as well which added that good mix of a family gathering of all kinds! It was not only a gathering of running addicts of the newly formed ultra running family, but a celebration for mom’s as well. Read the rest of this entry »

To run or not to run…
That morning of the run, I was feeling under the weather. It actually started after the Nike Run Clinic, which I felt very ill after. I had chills, cold sweat, and could barely move. Signs that made Bea very worried. It was because of this that I had second thoughts of running that morning.
The race was held on a Saturday, which is not the norm when it comes to the runs I’ve joined. I’m used to sleeping late on a Friday, then sleeping through the entire Saturday morning. Bea, on the other hand, was extremely excited and she was up and about early! I eventually, though, finally dragged my lazy butt out of bed, and got ready for the race. Thanks to the Nathan nutrition belt/bib holder I bought from Runnr, it made getting ready easy. It eliminated the hassles of pinning the bib to my singlet. Read the rest of this entry »
